What is Galvanized Steel Coil? Detailed introduction of Galvanized Steel Coil
Galvanized Steel Coil is defined as carbon steel coil coated with zinc on both sides. Galvanized Steel Coils are used in a variety of applications from HVAC ductwork to garden buckets, home decor to trash. The glossy finish makes it visually appealing.
Galvanizing is one of the most effective and economical ways to protect bare steel from corrosive environments. Zinc is not only a barrier between steel and the environment, but sacrifices itself to protect the steel below. Sacrificial or galvanic protection occurs when two dissimilar metals come into contact and combine with water and oxygen. Zinc preferentially corrodes iron in steel. This protection prevents corrosion of the steel in areas not covered by zinc. Therefore, corrosion propagation from cutting edges, drill holes, etc. is minimized.
While this is the most common form of galvanizing, it is often used on previously manufactured steel because the thickness of the final product is not easily controlled. Another method of galvanizing process is continuous galvanizing.
After continuous galvanizing through the zinc bath, the surface of the continuous steel strip (coil) is galvanized. The coils run at about 600 feet per minute. When the coil leaves the zinc bath, it takes with it an extra layer of molten zinc. Use high pressure air (air knife) to remove excess zinc to create the desired thickness. Then let the material cool and create a shiny finish. Skipping galvanized steel and continuous galvanizing allows for more accurate thickness control and is often used for steel that has not yet been fabricated. As the coating thickness increases, so does the risk of losing some of the coating during manufacturing or molding.
The advantages of using galvanized steel compared to products such as stainless steel are relatively low cost, long service life, low maintenance costs, and rapid production. Therefore, galvanized steel is used in thousands of products that we see and use every day.
Advantages of GI:

5. The coating has strong toughness. The galvanized layer forms a special metallurgical structure that can withstand mechanical damage during transportation and use.
